Veil
The Chthonic Arc | Episode 3
"A bad marriage is like an electrical thrilling machine: it makes you dance, but you can't let go."
Summary
Emma and her bridesmaids escape the ship's chaos and discover a hidden instrument room monitored by Selene, the purser. Through whale songs transmitted via ship equipment, they begin hearing the same haunting vocalizations from their dreams. Selene reveals cryptic knowledge of R'lyeh and warns that something ancient lies dormant, waiting to be awakened. During an unsanctioned excursion to Tunngavik - an archaeological site holding pre-contact carvings - Kara becomes entranced by mysterious runes and follows them off the marked path. The group encounters a sealed chamber depicting the naditu, priestesses who offered themselves to ancient entities. When Kara triggers the chamber to open, the full scope of the ritual becomes apparent as supernatural forces manifest within the site. Emma, still retaining her agency, resists the escalating possession and manages to use tentacle-based combat to hold the entities back. The Captain and Olivia reveal themselves, exposing this as part of a larger ceremony - and Emma's wedding may not be to a human at all.

Full Synopsis (Spoilers)
Aboard the ship's interior spaces, Kara sought refuge from the bachelorette chaos with Sarah and Emma. Through Selene's guidance in the instrument room, they discovered the whale songs weren't random they were transmissions from the deep, carrying intelligence and intention. Selene spoke of veils thinning in certain places and warned that ancient knowledge carried consequences.
At Tunngavik, the archaeological team led by Mairead examined genuine pre-contact carvings depicting ritualistic scenes. Kara, driven by obsessive curiosity and knowledge of esoteric traditions, ventured beyond the marked path to follow the carved patterns. This transgression activated a mechanism that sealed the chamber and revealed chambers covered in depictions of the bachelorette party members themselves - a past that hadn't occurred yet, existing in some liminal space.
The revelation triggered a supernatural intervention: tentacled entities began manifesting and attempting to assimilate the women through violation and sensory overload. Kara, already partially hybridized or touched by the entity's influence, participated in the assault with disturbing enthusiasm, describing the victims as "chosen" and "naditu."
Emma maintained resistance through sheer force of will and available weaponry, deploying her own mysterious capabilities to fight back against the possession attempts. When the Captain and Olivia materialized in the chamber with their true forms partially revealed, Emma's defiance shifted the dynamic. Rather than complete domination, they announced that her wedding ceremony itself would be the true binding event, and she'd been invited as both guest and central figure.
